Koc University Technology Transfer Office under RPDTTD supports the protection and commercialization processes of the Intellectual Property (IP) based technologies that are resulted from the research conducted at the Koc University Laboratories. Technology Transfer Office translates scientific results that might have commercial potential to marketable products or processes by transferring early stage technologies to public while returning income to the university.
Main Industry: Technology Transfer
Licensing Process KOC University TTO s “Technology Transfer” process starts with the protection of the idea/invention in the form of “Intellectual Property”. Patent Protection: Only the inventions that have a potential of “Commercial value” are protected by the University. This decision is not about the stage of the development, but about the commercial potential of the technology. Building and managing a patent portfolio: The technologies that are applied for patents are dealt as patent portfolio and managed accordingly (by creating a center of excellence). Finding the commercial partners: At this stage, by the help of our strategic partner Inventram, the players on that market are assessed and at the direction of the commercialization strategy an active search for the potential commercial partner starts. After this process, if a successful commercialization is achieved, RPDTTD distributes the income from the license according to the university’s standard revenue sharing policy. Transfer of the technology to the market: Once the technology is under protection as Intellectual Property, the most ideal commercialization route for that specific technology is assessed again with our partner Inventram: - Technology Licensing - IP – based Start-up formation / Entrepreneurship - Joint research partnerships
